Ysabela Reyes | Teacher Candidate
EDPR2000 Practicum Winter 2023
Throughout the semester, I have had the pleasure of working alongside the Visual Arts department where I taught Grades 9-10 Visual Arts and Grade 11/12 Photography at James Cardinal McGuigan in the TCDSB. Over the past several months I have spent in the community, I have had a great opportunity to build my relationships with the students, teachers and staff at the school. I learned various classroom strategies to support student learning and well-being, created my own assessments, facilitated my own lessons and unit plan, and assisted a student-lead school mural project for the community.
I am very grateful to have had a supportive and informative mentor teacher who guided me throughout my time at JCM. She taught me ways of fair assessment, how to improve my delivery of lessons and new skills within visual arts. I was also able to learn under the guidance of the other teachers through collaboration to assist student learning and discuss various teaching strategies and procedures. I had the opportunity to build upon my knowledge of the student interests in the school, improve my teaching skills and developing my role as a teacher.
